Queensland Government’s Proposed Tenancy Reforms

Queensland Government’s Proposed Tenancy Reforms

QCOSS have distributed a letter to its networks about this topic as follows.   Thank you QCOSS.

Everyone in Queensland deserves to live in a place where they can create a safe, secure and affordable home whether they rent or own.

QCOSS welcomes the Queensland Government’s proposed tenancy reforms and the response to the reform consultation proves there is huge support for change to our tenancy laws to support and protect both tenants and property owners.

The organisation strongly encourages you to express your views on the proposed changes. It’s vital that as many people as possible have their say on these important reforms.

The deadline to have your say on this important consultation is 5:00pm on 28 December 2019.

Here are some ways you can take action and impact the tenancy law reform Bill.

1.Use the Make Renting Fair proforma submission

The quickest and easiest way to voice your support is to submit a Make Renting Fair pro forma submission here, fill in your details and press send. It takes one minute!

Please also share this link with your networks – we need as many Queenslanders as possible to have their say.

2. Send a submission to the government

Fill out the online submission form here (you’ll need to log in first).

3. Respond to the government’s online survey for each topic here

You’ll need to log in first. The topics are: ending tenancies fairly, minimum standards in rental properties, pets, minor modifications, domestic and family violence protections.

Let us know what else is important to you

Tenancy law reform is important, but it is only one piece of the puzzle to ensuring everyone in Queensland has a home. Housing reform is one of the key priorities for QCOSS for the upcoming state budget and election. You can have a say on what is needed to achieve better housing outcomes for all Queenslanders by completing their Annual Priorities Statement survey here.
