Voluntary Assisted Dying and Dementia Research Project

The Australian Centre for Health Law Research, Queensland University of Technology is currently involved in a research project exploring Voluntary Assisted Dying and Dementia.

As part of this study, we are seeking people living with dementia and carers to take part in an in-person four-and-a-half-hour event on Wednesday, 25 March (9:30 AM – 2:00 PM) at QUT’s Kelvin Grove Campus. The event will be attended by QUT researchers, medical practitioners, people living with dementia, carers, policymakers and representatives from professional associations or peak bodies.

During this day, participants will be given the opportunity to offer their views on possible legislative models that would allow people living with dementia to access VAD. The day will be recorded and will include facilitated focus groups, small-group discussions, and presentations from trained facilitators to communicate the findings throughout the day. Participants will be provided with morning tea and lunch, and reimbursed for any associated parking or public transport costs.

To prepare them for the in-person event, participants will be asked to attend a webinar (or watch a recording) and will be provided with a resource pack. We will also ask participants to complete a short pre- and post- survey to document their views, including any changes that occur throughout the research project.

People who complete the research activities will be given a $200 gift card as an appreciation for their time.
