OPAN’s Presenting Issues Report
Earlier this year, the Older Person’s Advocacy Network (OPAN) CEO, Craig Gear launched their third Presenting Issues report dated July 2022 – June 2023.
OPAN members provided 36,904 instances of information and advocacy support to older people, their families and other representatives in the last financial year. This represents a 36 per cent increase on 2021-22.
The report identifies poor communication and lack of choice and control as the top issues being experienced by older people across the aged care system.
Mr Gear said the report plays a fundamentally important role in identifying the most pressing issues facing older Australians receiving aged care in the past 12 months.
“Everyone deserves respect and dignity as they age – but sadly, our rights are eroded as we get older,” Mr Gear said.
“This report allows us to assess the most common presenting issues for older Australians and put forward some practical and actionable recommendations to aged care providers and the Government.”
